Korean Menswear on the Rise as “We11done” struts the runway of Paris Fashion Week.

The K-Wave has consistently and rapidly grown since the late 90s when it surfaced as a significant cultural phenomenon. Seoul has been catching up behind major fashion cities over the past few years, with established menswear labels such as Juun.J and Wooyoungmi in Paris. 


Over the years, the trend of Korean menswear gained widespread popularity in Asia as well as internationally. Many e-Commerce sites, such as Farfetch, Mr. Porter and Ssense jumped on the bandwagon by curating these indies and established labels. 


It was a dream come true for Korean label, “We11done” when they debut their first runway show at Palais de Tokyo with their fifth season. Having a diverse sense of aesthetics and style, co-founders Jessica Jung and Dami Kwon dominated the runway with unconventional silhouettes and oversized proportions. 



The collection was decked up with faux pieces and gender-bending styling. What may seem like a tube top was styled with a pink faux fur jacket. Pushing boundaries and annulling gender stereotypes.




Faux leather is used heavily for the collection as well. The usage of faux leather complements the exaggerated and oversized silhouette, bringing out the “Power Dressing” style which happens to be a key trend for 2020. 




A contrast of textures and unorthodox layering are prominent features on this runway. The idea of bewilderment seems to work well in their favor. It looked equally cool on a female and male model, the latter in a textured trench with a puffed-up faux fur-collared top. 


Though the approach for We11done has constantly been trend-driven and fashion-forward, Jung and Kwon have raised the ante with their fall 2020 collection. The unexpected choices have proven that they have a penchant for risk-taking and it might be the best for We11done moving forward. Paris is indisputably the city of fashion, and many Korean menswear labels are fast dominating the runways. With the successful entrance of We11done, the path has opened up for other similar brands to enter the landscape.
